The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed in a statement Monday that they’re already working on fixing three spelling mistakes found on the base of the statue of Kobe Bryant unveiled last month outside Crypto Arena.

Lakers claim they’ve been aware of the typos for weeks, but did not mention anything until it went viral on Monday. The names of former NBA players Jose Calderon and Von Wafer are misspelled, plus a misspelling of the phrase “Coach’s Decision.”

There are also minor formatting mistakes on the busy base of the statue, which displays some of Bryant’s milestones, including the box score from his 81-point game in January 2006.

“We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon,” the team wrote in a statement.

Kobe Bryant will get two more statues from Lakers

The 19-foot bronze statue depicts Bryant celebrating having the second highest-scoring game in NBA history and the Lakers will give him two more sculptures.

His widow, Vanessa Bryant, confirmed during the statue unveiling that it’s only one of three renderings with which the Lakers will honor him.

One statue is to include his daughter, Gianna, who in 2020 died by his side and seven other passengers in a tragic helicopter crash.
