Tattoo artist Becca Vear specialises in ‘feminine’ designs and says the majority of her clients are women who want something ‘cute’, stylish and ‘whimsical’.

Becca, 26, recently opened her own tattoo studio in Huddersfield town centre after several years working at other studios.

Her new venture, opened with help from her proud dad Keith, is called Four Leaf Tattoo and can be found above the Catwalk fashion boutique in King Street.

Huddersfield-born Becca, who studied art at Huddersfield New College, specialises in Blackwork, a tattoo style that uses just black ink, although occasionally she will use coloured ink. Around 80 per cent of her clients are women.

Becca told YorkshireLive that she enjoys creating ‘whimsical’ and fantasy-style designs, from ‘cute’ woodland creatures to floral designs featuring roses and so on. Some of the her popular designs feature rabbits, badgers, squirrels, and foxes.

She enjoys designing bespoke tattoos from scratch, using an iPad to create a stencil to ensure it matches the client’s request.

And while woodland creatures and flowers are in demand, some tattoo designs have fallen by the way side. Occasionally, her customers might ask for a ‘cover-up’ of an old, unwanted tattoo. Tribal-style tattoos aren’t as popular as they were, and the names of former partners may need to be covered over with a fresh design.

“I only do cover-ups if I know it will be 100 per cent (successful),” says Becca. And she says most people seem to have realised that a partner’s name tattoo may not be the best idea.

Becca says that tattoos featuring daggers, swords, snakes and skulls remain popular with fans of fantasy and sci-fi films such as Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, as well as fans of video games/films such as Zelda and The Witcher.

Her own ‘arm sleeve’ of tattoos features birds and flowers. She says: “A lot of my work is on the feminine side. Eighty per cent of my clientele are female. I do get men who want gaming tattoos such as Dungeons and Dragons and The Witcher.”

Becca operates via pre-booked appointments through her Instagram account. She has previously worked as a tattoo artist at The Drawing Room in Linthwaite and at Blue Eyes Tattoo, Huddersfield town centre.
