Ja Morant is on the cusp of making a comeback to the NBA under the watchful eye of Commissioner Adam Silver and the Grizzlies organization, but he must first address the legal matters surrounding the Joshua Holloway case.

Morant, the standout player for the Memphis Grizzlies, found himself suspended by Adam Silver for posting an image of a firearm on social media.

The suspension was seen as an opportunity for Morant to focus on personal development away from the basketball court, a decision influenced by some controversial incidents towards the end of the previous season. Among these incidents is the ongoing legal issue involving a confrontation with teenager Joshua Holloway, whom Morant allegedly punched. Morant recently shared his side of the story as the case unfolds.

What did Ja Morant say about the incident?

Expressing his perspective on the altercation with Holloway, Morant was clear.

“That’s disrespectful. Setting the ball at your feet in a check ball situation is disrespectful,” Morant explained.

He explained that during this encounter, he rolled the ball toward Holloway, expecting a proper check, but the teen unexpectedly threw the ball, hitting Morant in the face. Seeking an apology, Morant’s attempt was in vain as Holloway responded by pulling up his shorts, a move that, in Morant’s eyes, signified a fighting stance.

In defense of himself, Morant admitted to hitting Holloway first to protect himself, particularly interpreting the act of Holloway pulling up his shorts as a potentially threatening gesture. The situation escalated further as people intervened, leading to Holloway being pulled towards the gate.

During the civil case trial on Monday, Morant recounted that Holloway had made alarming statements.

“I’m gonna light this place up like a firework show,” Holloway was accused of saying.

Morant interpreted this as a potential threat involving firearms, further escalating the tension.

As the trial unfolds, Morant‘s fate remains uncertain, with no clear indication of the potential consequences he may face. However, it seems that both Adam Silver and the NBA are prepared for Morant’s eventual return to the league, marking the next chapter in the young player’s career.
