The Met Office has given its verdict on heavy snowfall which weather maps have predicted will arrive in Yorkshire next week.

According to snow maps from WXCharts , snow is forecast for Yorkshire next Thursday (March 21). The snow is set to arrive in Yorkshire at around 6am, with heavy snow falling in Leeds, Bradford and York.

North Yorkshire is currently expected to bear the brunt of the snow , with between two to three centimetres falling an hour in parts of the Yorkshire Dales, before the snow moves to cover almost all of the county, including Leeds, Bradford, York , Huddersfield, Doncaster and Sheffield .

But the Met Office forecast is less hopeful. In the long range forecast for Monday March 18 through to March 27, the weather forecasters have said: “There is a small chance of more notable colder conditions developing, most probable across the north of the UK, but at this stage any confidence in this remains low.”

Instead of forecasting snow , the meteorologists are favouring a prediction of heavy rain and generally mild, and windy conditions for that period. Below is the Met Office’s long range weather forecast for the remainder of March.

Monday March 18 – Wednesday March 27

Into the new week a continuation of the changeable but generally mild conditions looks likely. Rain heaviest in western, especially northwestern areas while parts of the south and southeast are likely to see longer, drier interludes.

Winds generally light to moderate in the south and east, with stronger winds affecting north-western areas at times, although at this time nothing exceptional is expected.

Into the latter part of next week and beyond we see a trend for temperatures to fall back closer to average across the UK. There is a small chance of more notable colder conditions developing, most probable across the north of the UK, but at this stage any confidence in this remains low.
